The Ranger Path offers one of the quieter ways to reach the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), combining steady climbing with spectacular mountain scenery. This circular route takes you through the heart of Eryri National Park, with dramatic ridgelines, peaceful lakes, and ever-changing views across North Wales. While less crowded than the Llanberis or Pyg tracks, it still provides a rewarding challenge and one of the best ways to experience Wales' highest mountain.

My experience
Choosing the Ranger Path turned out to be one of the best decisions of the day. From the very beginning, the trail felt quieter than I expected, allowing me to enjoy the mountains without constantly weaving through large crowds. The steady climb gave me time to appreciate the changing scenery, with every section revealing another view across the valleys and lakes below.
As I gained height, the landscape became increasingly rugged. The well-defined path gradually gave way to rockier terrain, making the final approach to the summit feel more like a true mountain adventure. Looking back down the valley, the views stretched for miles, making every stop to catch my breath worthwhile.
Reaching the summit of Yr Wyddfa is always a special moment. Standing on the highest point in Wales, surrounded by the peaks of Eryri National Park, it's easy to understand why this mountain attracts so many walkers every year. Even with other hikers around, there was still a real sense of achievement after the climb.
The circular route kept things interesting on the way back, offering fresh viewpoints rather than simply retracing every step. By the time I reached the car park, I'd experienced everything that makes this mountain so memorable, peaceful lower paths, rugged mountain terrain, incredible scenery, and the satisfaction of completing one of the UK's classic hikes.
If you're looking for a route that avoids some of the busiest paths while still delivering spectacular scenery, the Ranger Path is an excellent choice. It offers a great balance of challenge, solitude, and unforgettable mountain views.
