Whitby's West Cliff beach opens into a long sweep of sand beneath the town's clifftop terraces. It feels spacious once the tide is out, with views towards Sandsend in one direction and Whitby's piers in the other.

Visit notes
West Cliff Car Park is a practical arrival point, but the beach is below the cliff and the return climb is worth allowing for. The promenade and town provide more facilities than many nearby beaches, especially in the main season.
Tides change the amount of walking space considerably. Dog controls apply only to the signed central section during the summer restriction period, so read the notices at each access point rather than assuming the whole beach follows one rule.
